About Farm Fest

Farm Fest is a fund raising event benefiting the Franklin and Deerfield Land Trusts. It is the brainchild of Jaap Molenaar, a Deerfield farmer who found his way to Western Massachusetts via the Netherlands. Jaap runs a successful wholesale nursery stock business in Deerfield on land that was preserved by the Deerfield Land Trust and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts APR program.

Jaap and his fellow DLT board members launched Farm Fest in July of 2006. Despite the unfortunate fact that heavy rains descended upon the inaugural event, a good crowd braved the elements and made the day a big success.

We look forward to many successful Farm Fests in 2008 and beyond.

About the Deerfield and Franklin Land Trusts

Founded in 1987, the Franklin Land Trust (FLT) is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to work with landowners who seek to protect their farms, forests, and other natural resources significant to the environmental quality, economy and rural character of the region.

Founded in 1990, The Deerfield Land Trust (DLT) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining open space in the town of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Preserving farmland is a particular focus for DLT.

Working closely with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, DLT has utilized the state's APR (Agricultural Preservation Restriction) Program to preserve approximately 1800 acres of farmland in Deerfield. In total, DLT has preserved more than 2500 acres; approximately 20% of the open space in our well loved town.

FLT has protected over 15,000 acres of natural resources and currently has an additional 22,000 acres already in the pipeline waiting to be protected within the next few years.
